The Presidential Primary Elections Don't Count????

Most people don't know it but in Arizona [and many other states] the Presidential primary elections are beauty contests that don't count. The Presidential Primary elections are just there to give the voters the illusion that the voters get to pick the parties Presidential candidate, when in reality the candidates are picked at the parties conventions.

I suspect in this case the Democrats know Obama will be running for President and will get the nominations at the Democratic convention and don't want to have a primary for that reason.

Dems to forgo presidential primary, hold party-funded caucuses instead

The Arizona Republic

Hoping to save taxpayers some money, the Arizona Democratic Party will forgo a 2012 presidential preference election and instead pick its nominee and select convention delegates through party-funded caucuses.

The caucuses will be held March 31 in Arizona's current eight congressional districts, said Jennifer Johnson, a state party spokeswoman. The Democratic National Convention starts Sept. 3 in Charlotte, N.C.

The Republican presidential preference election is Feb. 28. That race has plenty of drama, but there is little suspense surrounding the Democrats' all-but-certain renomination of President Barack Obama.

Matt Roberts, a spokesman for Secretary of State Ken Bennett, wasn't sure how much of the more than $3 million appropriated for the presidential primary might be saved by the Democrats' move to caucuses.

"The only way that you'd ever have a real substantial cost savings is if all the recognized parties in Arizona decided not to participate," he said.
