I got the crime statistics for 2008 to 2010 on the ASU campus
in Tempe and summed up all the numbers and compared the
number of victimless drug and booze crimes to real crimes
such as rape, robbery and burglary.
On the Tempe ASU campus 67 percent of the crimes were for victimless drug and alcohol violations. I figured that arrests for drug war crimes would be the number one cause of arrests on the ASU campus, but I was wrong on that. Arrests for victimless liquor crimes were number one and accounted for 56 percent of the arrests. Victimless drug war arrests only accounted for about 11 percent of the arrests. According to the stats there were 12,720 crimes with 8,562 of those crimes being drug and liquor crimes. The highest number of REAL crimes was theft which there were 3383 of. Burglary was the number two real crime with 543 of them, followed by assaults with 76 of them. The bottom line is that with out the laws that make it a victimless crime for students to have booze or drugs the ASU police wouldn't have much work to do. Eliminate these laws and you could fire two thirds of the ASU police without effecting the safety of people on the ASU campus. Based on that I think it makes economic sense to legalize drugs and booze. |
