Woman Crushed by Elevator at Cal State Long Beach Identified KTLA News 3:52 a.m. PST, December 8, 2011 LONG BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) -- A woman was crushed under an elevator at Cal State Long Beach on Wednesday. The accident happened just before 9 a.m. at the Foundation Building, which houses mostly administrative offices. Long Beach fire officials say the elevator became stuck between floors, and when the woman tried to escape, the elevator dropped on her. The Urban Search and Rescue Team were able to lift the 2,000 lbs. elevator off of the woman. Firefighters administered aid to the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Captain Rich Brandt. "People that get stuck in elevators need to remain in the elevator," Brandt said. The woman, 48-year old Annette Lujan of Huntington Beach, worked in the University Office of Research for Grants and Contracts, according to Vice President of Administration and Finance, Mary Stephens. The accident is now under investigation. |
