I suspect if you ask Sheriff Joe he say "I am not a racist! I think Mexicans should have the same rights as Blacks, Indians and other criminals". But hey, isn't that what you would expect from Sheriff Joe???
More Arpaio critics demand that sheriff resign Dec. 29, 2011 09:24 AM Associated Press A group of African-American clergy and other members of the community plan to call for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's resignation Thursday as a result of a recent U.S. Department of Justice investigation. Pastor Warren E. Stewart says he and others plan to put pressure on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in seeking Arpaio's ouster. Stewart says the recent federal investigation shows proof that Arizona has become the Alabama of the 21st century. A U.S. Justice Department report released Dec. 15 shows Arpaio's office carried out a blatant pattern of discrimination against Latinos and held a "systematic disregard" for the Constitution amid a series of immigration crackdowns that have turned the lawman into a prominent national political figure. Arpaio calls the report a politically motivated attack by the Obama administration. The sheriff has maintained he will not resign. |
