Was Michelle Obama's shopping trip to Target
a staged event to make her look like a "commoner"
like the rest of us and help Obama get reelected in 2012?

Barrak Obama told us all kinds of lies to get elected in 2008. Examples - He was against the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. He was against the "Patriot Act" police state. He was going to stop arresting medical marijuana patients. He was going to support gay marriage. Based on those lies, I suspect he would send Michelle Obama on a shopping trip to Target to help him get reelected in 2012. Photos taken by an Associated Press photographer of first lady Michelle Obama strolling away from the checkout counter at a Target store in Alexandria, Va., circled the globe Friday. The images were unusual and striking, depicting the elegant first lady, in an unglamorous disguise, shopping at a discount store familiar to millions. Many found the images delightful and refreshing. "First Ladies . . . They're just like us!" gushed NBC's "Today" show in promoting coverage of Obama's trip. But almost as soon as the pictures hit TVs, newspapers and websites, the Obamas' critics were raising suspicions. "First Lady Michelle Obama shopping at Target with an AP photographer in tow . . . . planned? I think so," tweeted Fox News and radio host Sean Hannity. Rush Limbaugh said, "What a phony-baloney plastic banana good-time rock-and-roller optic photo op." Neither the White House nor the AP will say how photographer Charles Dharapak came to be the only news photographer present at the Target to capture Obama's excursion. Bob Steele, a journalism professor at DePauw University, says the available facts don't warrant the conclusion that Obama's trip to Target was calculated to counter criticism of her more expensive tastes. "Absent some cards that haven't been turned face up on the table, there's no evidence to suggest that the White House and AP were in cahoots," he said. |
