RedSeven is closing its computer repair shop in downtown Mesa, consolidating it with a Tempe location that is moving to bigger premises.

The Mesa shop at 213 W. Main St. is closing after seven years. The Tempe store on Guadalupe Road at McClintock Drive moves down the street to a spot on Elliot Road, next to Tempe Pollack Cinemas.

The company says it’s a cost-cutting move.

“The economy is just not letting up and we had to make a move,” said founder Michael Cady in a news release. “While we like being closer to our clients, it just makes more economic sense to have two high-output locations that are just a little farther away. This way we can keep our costs down and still provide a really quick turnaround.”

A Mesa manager said foot traffic at the Main Street location had been sparse. The spot is about a block east of Country Club Drive, in the hinterland of an emerging downtown arts enclave.

The new Tempe store, 1805 E. Elliot Road, opens Oct. 1, with a grand-opening party planned for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 with free food and drink, music, movie passes and “geeky prizes.” For more information, see www.red7usa.com or call (480) 775-6620.

RedSeven offers free estimates and loaner computers as well as next-day repairs, and also leases desktop PCs and laptops. The company started in 1997 near the Arizona State University campus, and at one point had five stores around the Valley. Today, in addition to the Tempe location there is also a store at 7119 E. Shea Blvd. in Scottsdale.
