This letter makes me think of Maricopa County Supervisors
Fulton Brock's wife.
She got 13 years in prison for the victimless crime
of giving a 17 year old kid a BJ.
If you assume it costs $50,000 a year to keep her in prison, that punishment for the victimless crime of giving a BJ is going to cost the taxpayers $650,000. If you ask me that is a huge waste of our tax dollars. Long terms benefit private prisons Sept. 7, 2011 12:00 AM Corrections Corporation of America and other private for-profit prison companies that lobby for tougher sentences are lining their own pockets at the expense of the Arizona taxpayer. When judges announce the length of a sentence, they should also be required to make public how much this incarceration is going to cost the taxpayer. For example, "John Doe, your sentence is 10 years and this will cost the Arizona taxpayers $350,000." We all are in favor of public safety, but Arizona can no longer afford to have the toughest sentencing guidelines in America. George Mundell Peoria, Arizona |
